Is your why attached to something that is bigger than you? Are you thinking about impacting the world? When you tap into that why, everything you touch will turn to gold. But why is it that when we set off on life’s adventure, we often equate success with achieving specific goals, like earning $100,000 or gaining 100,000 subscribers? Why do we believe that if we don’t get that trophy on the wall, we are not successful?
The Trap of Vanity Goals
People often start their journey with vanity goals. These are goals set to impress others, like achieving a milestone for external validation. They think that once they reach these goals, they will be satisfied and happy. However, this mindset is the reason many people fail repeatedly. When the why behind your goals is superficial, the motivation to persevere dwindles quickly.
Consider this: If your motivation is merely to show off your achievements to others, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. External validation is fleeting and rarely fulfilling in the long term. True satisfaction and lasting success come from within, from pursuing goals that align with your deeper values and passions.
A Life-Changing Experience
My perspective on life changed drastically through a humbling experience. I used to work out with a friend who was a dedicated athlete training for the NFL. Unlike a normal person, he was committed to working out six to seven days a week, for two hours each day, regardless of the weather. He took me under his wing after I had lost about 60 pounds. Confident in my progress, I thought I could keep up with him. But after just 45 minutes, I found myself on the ground, exhausted and almost in tears.
Seeing me in such a state, my friend asked, “Rob, what are you doing on the ground?” I replied, “I’m working out with you. I can’t keep up.” His next words changed my life: “Rob, God doesn’t make punks. Why are you on the ground? You’re better than this. Your dad died of a heart attack when you were 3 years old. You’re 23 now. If you don’t transform your life, you might not even live to see 45.”
Shifting Focus: From Vanity to Impact
This moment shifted my entire perspective on life. Now, every time I consider my why, it is different. I’m not focused on money, because I know it will come. Instead, I focus on the impact I can have on others. While I excel in business, my true strength lies in speaking into people’s lives and helping them transform. My why is not about external validation; it’s about using my God-given gifts to create positive change.
Reflect on your own experiences. Have you ever had a moment that completely changed how you view your goals and purpose? These moments can be powerful catalysts for realigning our priorities and motivating us to pursue more meaningful endeavors.
Living with Purpose
My mission is clear every single day. I wake up thinking about my mission, I dream about it, and I live it. My why is connected to something much bigger than myself. It involves setting up a legacy for my children’s children and helping others recognize their potential. This sense of purpose drives me to keep pushing forward, even when challenges arise.
When you have a strong why, it serves as a guiding light, helping you navigate through obstacles and stay focused on what truly matters. Your why becomes the foundation upon which you build your goals, dreams, and daily actions.
What is Your Why?
Is your why attached to something bigger than you? Are you focused on impacting the world? What are you investing your time into? When you align your why with your life’s mission, you become unstoppable. Write down your why, take time to understand it deeply, and attach it to your goals and dreams. When you do this, everything you touch will turn to gold.
Think about the legacy you want to leave behind. What kind of impact do you want to have on the world? By focusing on a purpose that extends beyond yourself, you can achieve a sense of fulfillment that far surpasses any material success.
Become Unstoppable
If you’ve made it this far, you already know you are an automator. Automation creates a lifetime of freedom for you. Stay amped, stay pumped, and keep your focus on your why. When your why is aligned with a greater mission, you become a force to be reckoned with, and the world will be better for it.
Remember, the journey to success is not just about reaching specific milestones; it’s about growing, learning, and making a positive impact along the way. Your why is the key to unlocking your full potential and creating a meaningful and fulfilling life.
